Smartphone addiction manifests in all sorts of ways. Some use their iPhone as an emotional crutch in awkward social situations. Others have caught the thumb twiddling bug while trying to distract themselves from important tasks including work, or study. There is also a growing realisation that apps use a number of subtle tricks to keep us hooked: Apple investors have called on the company to make the iPhone less addictive, and Facebook's nagging notifications certainly don't help.
