01 December 2011This week saw O2 switch on the first 4G network in London. It went live on 14 November ready for a nine month trial and over 25 4G sites will go live across London this month, covering a combined area of 40 square kilometres, between now and summer 2012.
The network will enable O2 to provide a mobile internet experience comparable to the fastest landline fibre home broadband connections, unlocking a wealth of services including high speed corporate LAN access, high-definition film and music streaming, mobile online gaming and high-speed access to social networks. At these speeds, the time to download a 500MB file could be as fast as under one minute, compared to over 5 minutes on 3G.

Ofcom heaps praise on O2 broadband
01 August 2011Just last week Ofcom published their research into Britain’s broadband networks, and we came out with a glowing report.
Ofcom found our Home Broadband connections were the least affected during peak hours, with our 20Mbit/s and 24Mbit/s ADSL packages seeing the least change between 8pm and 10pm.
During tests, Ofcom found O2 Home Broadband lines averaged 95% of the maximum speed during peak hours. As well as that resilience during busy periods, our lines were found to be quicker than other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) at uploading content too. It’s a statistic often overlooked, but crucial for intensive applications, such as video chat and Skype calls.
We’re continuing to invest in broadband infrastructure to provide a great service, and improve access across the country.

Whether they went to cheer on their favourite drivers, or as part of the 25,000-strong support teams who make the racing possible, it meant a lot of extra traffic on the mobile networks in one condensed area.
O2 states;
‘As the home of the smartphone, we know better than anyone how customers use their phones at special events, be that updating Twitter, sending a message or making a quick call. So we work hard behind the scenes to make sure they get a first class network experience.
